The Operating System

Windows 95 OSR 2, also known as Windows 95B or Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2, was a version of the Windows operating system released by Microsoft on August 24, 1996. It was an updated version of Windows 95, which was released a year earlier and marked a significant milestone in the history of personal computing, introducing features such as the Start menu, taskbar, and plug-and-play support.

Windows 95 OSR 2 included several enhancements over its predecessor, including support for FAT32 file systems, which allowed for larger hard drives and improved disk compression. It also added support for USB devices, DirectX 2.0 for improved gaming performance, and Internet Explorer 3.0, which brought several new features such as support for frames and tables on web pages.

Windows 95 OSR 2 was primarily intended for OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) who preinstalled it on new computers. However, it was also available as an upgrade for existing Windows 95 users. The release was well-received by users and helped to further popularize the Windows operating system, which had already become the dominant player in the personal computer market.
