About

Netscape was a pioneering American computer services company and the creator of the Netscape Navigator web browser. Founded in 1994, Netscape played a significant role in the early development of the internet, popularizing the World Wide Web and introducing many of the features and standards that are now commonplace in web browsers. Netscape Navigator was one of the first widely-used web browsers, and it quickly gained dominance in the market. However, competition from Microsoft’s Internet Explorer eventually led to a decline in Netscape’s market share. In 1998, Netscape was acquired by AOL, and, later that year, Netscape re-invented itself as the Mozilla Foundation which went on to produce the Firefox web browser.
