The Operating System

Windows 95 OSR 2, also known as “Windows 95B,” was a significant update to the original Windows 95 operating system released on August 24, 1996, by Microsoft. This update included several improvements, bug fixes, and new features, making it a much more stable and reliable operating system than its predecessor.

One of the most notable improvements in Windows 95 OSR 2 was the addition of support for FAT32 file systems, which allowed for larger hard drives and more efficient use of disk space. It also included support for USB devices, which had only recently been introduced at the time, and improvements to Plug and Play, making it easier to add and remove hardware from the system.

Windows 95 OSR 2 also introduced Internet Explorer 3.0, which was integrated into the operating system and provided users with a faster and more convenient way to access the internet. The update also included several new accessories and utilities, such as the Microsoft Fax Service and the Windows Address Book.

Overall, Windows 95 OSR 2 represented a significant improvement over the original Windows 95 release and helped to solidify Microsoft’s position as the dominant player in the desktop operating system market. It was a hugely popular release and remains a significant milestone in the history of computing.
